PM opens state-of-art cancer hospital
DOHA: the Prime Minister H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, at a ceremony held on its premises on Thursday morning, opened the state-of-the-art Al Amal Oncology Hospital, which will offer superior quality medical treatment to cancer victims in Qatar
The facility, located inside the Rumaillah Hospital complex off the Al Rayyan Road was built at a cost of QR90m.
The event was attended by H E Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani, H E Dr Hajar Ahmed Hajar Al Binali, the Minister of Public Health, H E Mohammad bin Mubarak Al Khulaifi, Chairman of the Advisory Council, H E Sheikh Falah bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, Minister of Civil Service Affairs and Housing, H E Sultan bin Hassan Al Dhabit Al Dossari, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture and H E Mohammad bin Issa Al Mohannadi, Minister of State, among other dignitaries.
The opening ceremony, held at a tent erected outside the Al Amal Hospital, began with the arrival of the Prime Minister, accompanied by other VIPs. A Qatari student opened the proceedings with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran.
Dr Latifa Ibrahim Al Houti, Chairperson of the Hamad Medical Corporations Board of Directors, in her speech, noted that the hospital signifies the relentless efforts and unlimited support extended in the field of healthcare by the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. She said the project was given top priority to ensure that cancer victims in Qatar can receive the best medical treatment in their homeland, while living with their families, rather than traveling abroad for cures.
In his speech, H E Turki Mohammad Al Khater, Managing Director, HMC, said, the Al Amal Oncology Hospital project will be considered as a milestone in the history of healthcare in Qatar and represents a unique achievement since cancer patients, for the first time, would be able to avail of radiotherapy within the country.
This hospital is designed to meet all needs of various cancer patients, including diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgical treatment and socio-psychological care, with the best possible standards in the Gulf region and the world, he added.
He revealed that a cooperation contract was signed between the HMC and Germanys University Clinics of Heidelberg to lay out the running plans and schedule the clinical and technical applications required for the diagnosis and treatment of various types of cancers.
The contract includes the provisioning of highly qualified medical experts, of various specializations in cancer treatment from Heidelberg University and other similar European organizations, as well as training local medical staff on the latest techniques of diagnosis and treatment and the best methods of operating the advanced medical equipment introduced in this hospital, Turki Mohammad, added.
The Prime Minister and other dignitaries, accompanied by Dr Hajar, toured the new hospital premises and were briefed about the various facilities and equipment by the physicians and staff there.
