Supreme Council of Health

The Supreme Council of Health is an institution dedicated to achieving excellence in providing a fully integrated and well-managed system of quality healthcare services for all people living in Qatar.

The key functions of the Supreme Council of Health are to create a clear vision for the nation’s health direction and to guarantee a quality of public healthcare which matches the best in the world. It supervises the quality and effectiveness of service delivered by primary care and hospital and other public and private sector health service providers to ensure adherence to quality standards and continual improvement of performance.

The Supreme Council of Health does not provide clinical services.  Instead it oversees the quality and effectiveness of services delivered by public institutions such as Hamad Medical Corporation and the private sector, to ensure that standards are met and performance targets achieved. It also oversees public health programs related to the control of infectious diseases, and coordinates with other agencies on environmental and public safety promotion. It develops and regulates policies in such areas as health insurance, information technology, licensure and credentialing and continuing medical education.
