It’s the responsibility of the pregnant woman to watch over her health to ensure the delivery of her baby safely.She is expected to show up regularly for her antenatal visits and prompt follow up of the instructions provided by her physician.
Here are some tips to follow:
1.Have a good and thorough knowledge of the process of pregnancy, its course and complications.
2.To have a clear record of her monthly menstrual cycles.
3.Maintain a healthy diet.
4.Early administration of maternal supplements eg.Folic acid.
5.To deal with pregnancy complications ( if any ), seriously and know how to prevent them from happening in future pregnancies.
The lifestyle of a pregnant woman should also change to adapt with the new physiological changes.Examples include:
1.Proper, comfortable clothing.
2.Avoid high heels and tightly fitted shoes. Flat, wide shoes are preffered.
3.Use of seatbelt when driving.
4.Do not take any medications unless prescribed by your physician.
5.Safe use of home appliances with accurate knowledge of their affect on you and your baby.
6.Proper use of machinery and lifting of objects inorder to avoid hurting the back.
7.Antenatal care, as this will allow early recognition of the complications during pregnancy.
