The trauma training section is divided into the following courses:
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
Affiliated with the American College of Surgeons, Committee on
Trauma (Saudi Arabia Chapter). This three-day course is aimed at physicians,
but nurses and paramedics are welcome to attend as observers. It teaches the
candidate how to optimize the trauma patient’s chance of survival with the
resources available in an emergency department, or public clinic. It consists
of interactive lectures and hands on practical sessions, including an animal
laboratory.


Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN)
This is a two and a half day course taught concurrently with the
Advanced Trauma Life Support Course for physicians. It is designed to teach the
registered nurse how to work as a member of a synchronized emergency room team
when treating the trauma victim.

Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS)
Affiliated with Basic Trauma Life Support International, this two
and half day course is the pre-hospital version of ATLS. It is divided into
basic and advanced levels aimed at paramedics, EMT’s and nurses who respond to
traumatic incidents.

Pediatric Basic Trauma Life Support
Affiliated with Basic Trauma Life Support International, this one
and a half-day course deals exclusively with trauma in children. Besides
reviewing the usual trauma conditions, the course highlights the differences in
the management of pediatric trauma. The course is comprised of lectures and
practical workstations.

Basic Trauma Life Support ACCESS
Affiliated with Basic Trauma Life Support International, This one
day practical course is aimed at responders who have to extricate a trapped
trauma patient with the minimum of tools. The course teaches the concepts of
extraction using hand tools. It emphasizes the principles of BTLS patient care
relevant to extraction under such circumstances.
