Hamad General Hospital Hamad General Hospital was opened in 1982. It has 660 beds and offers surgical and medical services with sub specialties. Full diagnostic facilities --radiology imaging, and laboratory -- are also available. The Accident & Emergency Department at HGH provide emergency and urgent care to patients without appointment 24 hours a day. Available there are an emergency operating theater, x-ray facilities, a pharmacy and a Day Care Surgery Unit. Ambulance services (Emergency Medical Services) are available 24 hours a day by calling "999". The Medical Department provides a wide range of services in Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Neurology, Chest & Pulmonary Disease, Infectious Diseases and Rheumatology. A Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is at hand to take care of a complete range of medical emergencies. The Renal Dialysis Unit provides care for those suffering from renal failure. The Surgery Department has eight operating theaters, a recovery room and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). Surgical specialties include General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery,Orthopedics, Urology, Pediatric Surgery, Ophthalmology and ENT. The Outpatient Department has 52 specialty clinics and 15 sub-clinical services.
