CLINICAL PREGNANCY RATE ACHIEVED BY THE IVF LABORATORY OF THE HAMAD MEDICAL CORPORATION: INCEPTION TO THE PRESENT, AND COMPARISON WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD

The number of patients increased gradually from 137 patients in 1993 to 645 in 1997. Subsequent to 1997 the patient load decreased gradually to 570 cases in 1998 to 467 patients in 1999. The increase in the number of patients in 1997 and 1998 was due to the entry of expatriate patients into program. Prior to which the program catered to nationals only at no cost. The clinical pregnancy rate was similar to that reported by other countries. In 1998 and 1999 the clinical pregnancy rate went beyond >30%. The delivery too followed a similar trend and has increased significantly over the years and is comparable to the world average of about 15.5%.

The assisted reproduction program of the Hamad Medical Corporation has continously improved over the years since its inception in 1993. The current (1999) pregnancy and delivery rates are comparable to or have reached a level that is on par with or better than that achieved by the developed nations, and in general is above the world average.
