Training Programs

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology gained accreditation in the Arab Board for Medical Specialization in July 1985. A four-year residency training program is implemented during which time candidates are expected to be actively involved in the management of obstetric and gynecologic cases plus a major research project. To date, a total of 13 trainees have enrolled and eleven have obtained the specialty degree.

Candidates who pass the Arab Board for Medical Specializations become Diplomates and are promoted to Specialist level.

In October 1990, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was also recognized by the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in UK as a training center for the MRCOG certificate.

The following scientific papers were recently published by the department: Gynecological malignancies in Qatar; Alfa-Fetoprotein elevation and prediction of pregnancy outcome; Adenomyotic cyst of the uterus; Gestational diabetes in Qatar; and Placenta Accreta invading the bladder.

During the year 1996, five visiting professors from UK, India and Jordan were invited by the Department to deliver lectures on current issues in obstetrics and gynecology.
