PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY CENTER

Qatar provides quality emergency and urgent care to sick children 24 hours a day at its Pediatric Emergency Center. The PEC is located at the Al Sadd Roundabout opposite the Al Sadd Plaza

Only children with acute medical problems should be brought to the PEC. Children with wounds, trauma and other injuries should be taken to the HGH Accident and Emergency Department. The PEC treats children with fever, breathing difficulty, stomach pain and other illnesses of an urgent nature. Children who require non-urgent care are best taken to your Health Center.

Health Card Required:

To assure prompt treatment, the child should have a valid Health Card. This assures quick access to the child's computerized medical records.To obtain care without a Health Card, the patient will be charged QR 30. Medication will be provided at a cost of QR 3.00 for each item.

Triage System

The PEC utilizes the triage system of evaluating the sick child to determine the illness. The Triage Doctor may refer the child to a more appropriate health facility if warranted by his/her condition. No child will be turned away without a physical examination and the evaluation of vital signs (temperature, heartbeat, pulse, breathing, etc.).

Admissions to HGH

The PEC admits urgently sick children to Hamad General Hospital if they require special care. An ambulance will take them there.

Sick children are admitted to the Observation Room for further evaluation or investigation if required by his medical condition. They are discharged home with medication if decided by the physician.

Fully-equipped Emergency Facility

The PEC is a fully equipped medical facility staffed by well-trained pediatricians, nurses and support staff. It can handle all types of medical emergencies except surgery. It is supported by

Pharmacy (open from 7:00 AM to 12:00 Midnight)
Radiology imaging (X-ray) available 24 hours a day
Laboratory investigation is available from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Spacious examination rooms (5)
24-hour Observation Room
24-hour ambulance service transport to Hamad General Hospital.
Staffed by 14 doctors, 35 nurses and 15 registrar/ladies on shift basis.

Referral Service

The PEC provides referrals to specialized clinics at HGH Outpatient Department for further evaluation and care.
