DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY Diagnostic and therapeutic services in Ophthalmology Section have steadily progressed through the years. Diagnostic procedures available at present include the use of automated computerized parameters and fluorescein angiography with a new fundus camera. Available treatment services have also been augmented. Laser treatment is administered to patients with neurological visual field. Penetrating keratoplasty, phacoemulsification for cataract surgery and vitrectomy are now routinely performed. Intraocular lens implantation was first performed in 1990. New equipment were acquired that would either aid in the diagnosis or treatment of ophthalmic disorders: Phaco (for the treatment of cataract), Vitrectomy Machine (for treatment in posterior segment procedure) and Endo Laser (for use in operation) Ophthalmology initially started with two outpatient clinics. Due to the 75% growth in outpatient visits, the clinics were expanded to six. Now, in the addition to the existing clinics, five more examination rooms were opened for the following services: laser treatment, automated computerized parameters, fluorescein angiography with fundus camera, orthoptic and optometric clinics, and minor surgery.
