ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

INTRODUCTION :
|
|
The Accident and Emergency
Department at Hamad Medical Corporation was established in 1982, it provides continuous
and comprehensive Level I, emergency care to all patients in a most effective and
professional manner.
|
Over the last 17 years , the
Accident & Emergency Department has continued to improve and update the services
provided, and because it is the only department providing emergency services in Qatar, it
has been recognized by the community as a medical and trauma center where they can
approach at any time for their emergency needs expecting expert and prompt attention.
|
Both medical and nursing
staff show combined responsibility for its operation and quality of patient care.
|
The increasing pressure to
expand and develop services for the need of the population remain the priority of the
department, these developments were always focusing on improving the efficiency of patient
care as well as on links with the other hospital departments and with the primary and
other community health services.

The Objectives of
this Department are as follows :

1)
To meet the communitys and Corporations goals for emergency health delivery.
|
2)
To provide comprehensive, quality emergency health services to all persons.
|
3)
To measure the quality of emergency care through a quality management program.
|
4)
To maintain the access to health care as the right of every individual.
|
|
1 - SERVICES IN
A&E :
|
The large range and volume
of services currently being provided reflect the commitment and dedication of all medical,
nursing and supportive staff in the accident and emergency department.
|
The Accident and Emergency
Department receives all accidents e.g.: Road traffic, Occupational, Domestic, etc., all
injuries (sports, fractures,wounds, burns, etc.) and all serious medical and surgical
emergencies.
|
The work in the Accident
& Emergency Department is based on 7 hours shift duties. The number of physician
available in each shift has been arranged according to the number of patients attending
the department in 24 hours, so that the maximum number of physician will be available in
the A&E Department during peak hours (Morning 7am - 2pm & Evening 5pm - 12MN).

A Senior Emergency Physician
(at the level of Senior Specialist) , experienced in Emergency care will be on duty in the
Emergency care area to ensure the presence of supervision and consultation, for on-duty
Residents and Specialists.
|
There is in-hospital
physician coverage of Specialists and Senior Residents for Medical, Surgical, Orthopedic,
Pediatric and Anesthesia services.
|
Other specialty consultation
is available within short time by request of the attending Emergency Physician.
|
Services provided :
|
- Provide effective triage system for both maleand female
patients to assure initial rapid and sound assessment for setting medical and surgical
priorities for emergency care.
|
- provide emergency medical care for all major and minor
trauma cases, males, females and paediatrics.
|
- Provide emergency medical care for all urgent medical and
surgical cases.
|
|
1- Observation for Accident
& emergency patients for further care and follow-up.
|
2- Observation for Head
Injury cases.
|
3- Pharmacy services.
|
4- Radiology services.
|
5- Laboratory services.
|
- Provide quality improvement program through which the
quality of patient care can be assessed.
|
- The department has its own teaching , research , and
training programs for medical and nursing staff, and trainee from other departments.
|
- Cooperate with other hospital departments to achieve maximum
patient care
|
- Provide
continuous medical education and training for the medical and nursing
staff.
|
- The A/E department provide continuos public health education
programs.
