ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

RECENT DEVELOPMENT IN THE A/E  DEPARTMENT

   As a policy adopted  in the A/E Department, since its establishment to continue up dating and improving services provided to the patients and due to the increase in the number of patients seeking treatment in the department. with its adverse effect on the quality of patient care, several effort were directed towards expanding and updating the department service areas and equipment.

 

 1.  Expansion and modification of the triage,  registration and patient’s waiting areas.

   2. Expansion of the treatment areas.

 3. Re-organization of the Reception and Registration area with a separate waiting area for male and female patients.

4. Modification of the A/E X-ray room so that two rooms can be utilized to reduce the waiting time for patients and new ceilingX-ray is fixed in Trauma Room.

5. A/E Pharmacy The location of the pharmacy has been recently changed to allow a separate access for males and females.

6.  Qualified doctors and nurses with surgical and medical experience have been  recruited in order to maintain and improve patient care

7. New post for the emergency department  (Patient relation coordinator)

 8. Paging system : installed in A/E it is very useful to contact doctors in case of ergency. Pagers are installed in all areas of the  department.

9.Establishing Trauma and Emergency Center out side the city of Doha:

These new emergency centers were located in different areas where it can provide emergency medical services and medical care to all people of Qatar. The main objective of this project is to reduce the mortality and morbidity rate which result from major accidents and other medical emergencies by:

 a) reduce the time taken for the seriously injured patients and other medical emergencies to receive care.

 b) and to stabilized critical patients prior to transfer to emergency department where the  necessary facilities are available..

 

The following trauma centers are already established:
 Al Khor Emergency Center:

     Emergency Center in Al Khor was opened on 2nd October 1999 for 24 hours with 4-bed capacity.7 Nurses are assigned there, 2 nurses in each shift and there is one Registrar doing 24 hours duty. The Census is attached.

  Al Kaban Emergency Center:

This Center was opened on December 1999. This center is working for 24 hours and one Registrar and one nurse is on full time duty. The Census from January 2000 to end of May 2000 is 276.
Al Wakra Emergency Center

Trauma center in Al Wakra was opened on 20th May 2000. Within one month the census of the patients seen were attached.

1. Establishment of International Emergency Training Center.

Its main goals are :

1.To provide internationally recognized and certified training programs in:

Trauma:    

                     *        ATLS                (  Provider and Instructor Courses )

                     *        BTLS                (  Provider and Instructor Cources )

                     *       PED.BTLS        (  Provider and Instructor Courses )

                     *        BTLS ACCESS ( Provider and Instructor Courses )

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation:

      Advanced and Basic Life Support (ALS and BLS )

                     *        ALS      ( Provider and Instructor Courses )

                     *        BLS      (Provider and Instructor Courses )

 EMS Training: 

                     *        EMT    ( Emergency Medical Technician )

                     *        EMD    ( Emergency Medical Dispatch )

                     *        Paramedic Supervisors TrainingPrgram.

 Disaster management and Preparedness

                     *       Disaster Management Training

                     *        Emergency Preparedness Training

                     *        Chemical Warfare Decontamination.

Basic Emergency Training Programs for the public

2.     To maintain the standard and quality of training as set by the  international organizations.

 11. Establishment of Arab Board Residency training program in Emergency  Medicine.

 The objectives of the Program are:

To provide the residents an out standing educational     opportunity for training in Emergency Medicine through clinical and didactic experiences.

To enable the trainee residents to acquire  sufficient knowledge, clinical sense and judgement to arrive at a sound management plan and decision.

To enable the graduate of this program to confidentially practice Emergency Medicine.

To encourage the academic and research interest of the trainee.

To enable the trainee residents acquire  acceptable conduct and   Become familiar with the legal Aspects involved in the practice of Emergency Medicine.

As main objectives of this program is to provide excellent patient care. 

12.     Establishment of Trauma Protocol:

The purpose of trauma protocol is to establish operational guidelines for the notifications and  function of physicians and departments dealing with Trauma to provide  for optimal initial evaluation and care of seriously injured patients

13. Updating of the External Disaster plan for Hamad Medical Corporation.

14.Trauma Registry and new update of the  Physician Trauma Chart will soon be implemented in the department.
