GULF HEART ASSOCIATION

The GCC cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons attending the first GCC Cardiovascular Conference on January 15-17, 2002 in Doha, Qatar discussed the idea of forming a Gulf Heart Association (GHA). All professional medical staff working in the field of cardiovascular medicine in the GCC States, citizens and non-citizens, will be potential members. The goals of the association, the scope of work and memberships were discussed. A subcommittee will draft by-laws, which will be submitted for approval. The nucleus of the GHA is the Founding Committee, which is composed of the President, Vice President, all members of the Advisory Committee appointed by the Board of the Health Minister’s Council for the GCC Arab States and one representative member from each of the GCC Arab States. Subcommittees such as Rules and Regulations, Financial, and Internet committees were formed.

The following decisions were made

a.   A final draft of the rules and regulations of the Gulf Heart Association will be
      presented  in the Second GCC Cardiovascular Conference in Muscat,
      Oman in January 2004.

b.    A follow-up meeting for the committee will be held in Doha,
       Qatar on April 20-21, 2002.

c.   Doha, Qatar will be the headquarters of the GHA for at least two years.

d.    Heart Views, will be the official Journal of the association.

e.    Membership fee will be $100 annually.
