DOLPHIN

Leaping from depths of the sea to touch the moon

 
 

Dolphins use sound waves "to see". Sound waves was utilized by the military for "search and destroy" missions, especially during World War II and it was during that era that ultrasound technology advanced. Medicine developed this destructive tool into a powerful diagnostic tool. The progress made in the last 50 years in medical ultrasound, especially cardiac ultrasound, has been incredible. Today cardiologists use ultrasound to see the heart in innovative ways (see pages 6, 21, 37)
