Training The Arab Board of Pediatric Residency Training Program was started in 1983. The Department of Pediatrics was the first to offer an Arab Board residency program in the Corporation. The department accepts six residents annually to the four-year program. At the end of the training period, candidates are eligible to sit for the Diplomate examination which entitles successful candidates to higher positions in the department. The department has now a total of 16 certified pediatricians who have graduated under the program. All senior staff are involved in the continuing education program of the department. They are qualified individuals who are certified in the Arab Board, American Board, MRCP, FRCP, MD, etc. The Qatarization of the medical staff in the department is actively pursued. The majority of the medical residents are now Qataris while an increasing number of specialists and senior specialists are Qatari nationals. Already, three of the pediatric consultants are Qataris, including the chairperson of the department.
