How to . . .

Get an appointment at HMC OPD clinics

To obtain HMC services, patients need a referral from their physician at their Health Center, Police, Army and QGPC clinics. Physicians at private clinics such as the Doha Clinic, Qatar Clinic and other clinics may also refer patients to HMC.

The referring physician will arrange for an appointment for you with the specialty clinic. This may be done by telephone or by fax. Physicians may arrange for clinic appointments by e-mail when the HMC system has been set up.

On the day of your clinic appointment, you should come to the desired outpatient department of Hamad General Hospital, Women’s Hospital, Rumailah Hospital and the HGH OPD Annex to register.

Please bring along your patient referral form and your health card. This card contains your medical record reference number. Patients who do not have the health card, will be charged a registration fee of QR. 30.

Please observe the procedures for outpatient appointments. After you register, you will be asked to proceed to the Specialty Control Desk. Please give the lady your papers and stay in the designated waiting area until the clinic nurse calls you. Waiting areas have been allocated in each Hospital Outpatient Department.

You will be given an Appointment Card for your next follow-up visit. Please show this to the Clinc Appointments Clerk so that he can enter your name and appointment time in the Appointment Schdule.

You might be given referral forms for any radiology and laboratory examination prescribed as part of the diagnostic process .

Specimens for laboratory investigations are taken at the OPD. You will be given a container for stool and other specimens which may be collected at home and brought over to the OPD Laboratory the next day.

For radiology examinations, please proceed to the radiology unit indicated. The Radiology Department is located on the ground floor close to the OPD.

Certain examinations may require a period of fasting. The Radiology Control Clerk will give you an appointment for this examination. Fasting rules should be strictly observed, otherwise it might invalidate your radiology or laboratory examination.

Nurses and all OPD staff are available to assist the patient through the referral process. You may ask them for directions or advice on where to go next. Pharmacies are also available nearby to fill prescriptions for outpatients. These have to be paid for by non-Qatari patients. The minimum amount for each item in the prescription is QR2.00 for one day to two weeks, QR 4.00 for 15 days to 30 days, and QR. 8.00 for 31 days to 60 days.

If this is a follow up visit, the patient will not have to stop at the Registration counter and may proceed directly to the Control Desk. Please give your appoinbtment card to the lady at the desk and wait for a few minutes at the designated waiting area until the doctor is ready to see you.

Your laboratory and radiology examination results will be ready for your next clinic appointment.

We thank you for giving us the opportunity to help you with your health problem and hope that you get well soon.
