Confidentiality and Privacy

We understand that medical information about you and your health is personal. We are committed to protecting medical information about you. We create a record of the care and services you receive at the HMC. This record is called a “medical record” and is needed to provide you with quality care and to comply with certain accreditation requirements.
You will be given a separate Booklet that describes how medical information about you may be used and disclosed and how you can get access to this information.

All patients have the right to access their own medical record. To obtain a copy of your medical record or to request a copy of your medical report, please contact your Physician. Translation services may be available for translating your medical report from English to another language. Medical Records keeps an active translator list of resources to assist with these matters. Check with Medical Records for the most recent languages available. There is a charge for both coping and translation services.

Any information concerning you and your health is strictly confidential. Everyone involved in your care has a duty to keep all of your information confidential and secure. Your records will not be shared or released to others without your consent.

To place any special restrictions on the use and disclosure of your medical information, please inform your Physician, Nurse or Admissions and Registration staff.

Security

Patient Valuables
We advise you not to bring valuables or large sums of money with you to the hospital. If you have any valuable items, please send them home with a relative. In the case of an emergency admission or unavailability of relative or friend, please ask your Nurse who will arrange for your valuables to be deposited in a safe place.

Lost Items
If you lost a personal item, please notify your Nurse or Security immediately. Articles found are forwarded to the Security Department for safekeeping.

Infection Control

There is a program in place for the prevention and control of infections in the hospital. Hand washing is the single most important procedure you can follow to help minimize your risk of infection. To help prevent the transmission of infections, the hospital staff uses different levels of isolation precautions such as single room, facemasks, goggles, gowns and gloves to protect patients, visitors and staff. If any of these isolation precautions pertain to you, please make sure you and your visitors follow the instructions given by the hospital staff.

Because infection control is a vital part of your care, we ask that you refrain from bringing any equipment, furniture, bedding (pillows, sheets, blankets, comforters) and rugs. Items brought from home will compromise our infection control for you and other patients.

Mobile Phones / Computer Use

Due to interference with sensitive medical equipment, use of mobile phones and personal computers are prohibited in patient care areas.

Smoking

As per Qatar law, smoking is prohibited in all public areas including all HMC grounds. All hospitals within Hamad Medical Corporation are smoke-free. This restriction extends to all staff, patient and visitors. Anyone smoking in the hospital or on hospital grounds will be asked by Security to immediately cease smoking. A fine may be issued. Artificial flowers are not permitted due to fire/safety regulations.

Donations

If you wish to make a donation, please contact the Administration at any of the hospitals.
