PREFACE

With a great deal of pride and satisfaction, and after a very difficult labor we launched our contribution to the medical scientific industry, “The Middle East Journal of Emergency Medicine (MEJEM)”. The premiere edition is just a taste of things to come.

Our aim is to encourage research in the field of emergency medicine worldwide but especially in the Middle East Region. In addition MEJEM will serve as an educational tool and communication platform for all workers concerned with emergency medicine in its broadest scope.

Emergency medicine is a field of constantly changing trends, in which many are constantly striving to prove and improve. From the good intentions of the past to the evidence based practice of today, the science of emergency medicine is moving forward at a rapid pace. Today’s professionals are asking questions, questioning previously accepted ideas pushing limits and exceeding previous boundaries. Nothing is accepted without proof, nothing is sacred in the drive to save more lives and reduce suffering. However, unfortunately there’s a huge gap in research and publications in the trends of emergency medicine in the middle east region. We hope that MEJEM plays a part in narrowing this gap in the new millennium. Through the coming issues we invite you to use our forum to express yourselves, its pages are for you.

No longer we need be dependent on the work of other others to decide the direction of our medical services in this region. Let us take our place on the world stage of research. Our work is our reward.
